RIGID PLASTICS USED FOR NEW FLORICULTURE RESEARCH GREEN HOUSES
Subject:
Pennsylvania Flower Growers #219
Abstract:
A quonset and two gothic arch greenhouses have been built adjacent to the floriculture research green houses. All three houses were covered with rigid, corrugated, five ounce glass reinforced plastic sheets. These greenhouses provide two additional designs for studies of structural use of plastic in greenhouses and plant response within these structures. Because of their close proximity to floriculture instructional facilities, they also can serve as teaching tools for demonstrating growing techniques, heating and ventilating, and construction methods of greenhouse types which are being used more frequently by commercial growers. Neither of these designs was originated at Penn State. Several types of semicircular or quonset and gothic greenhouse were illustrated in Courter's publication "Plastic Greenhous es" (1965).
