POINSETTIAS vs STREETLIGHTS

Subject:

Pennsylvania Flower Growers #258

Abstract:

Bellefonte's annual battle of the streetlight vs. poinsettias was joined last week when David Woodring, operator of a greenhouse at the rear of 235 E. Howard St., prevailed upon West Penn Power to black out a streetlight at the intersection of N. Ridge and E. Burrows Sts.—and the neighbors have called "foul." Mr. Woodring says the streetlight shines into the greenhouse, interfering with long hours of "natural light," including total darkness, required to bring the plants to budding in time for Christmas blooming. The neighbors say that having the light blacked out endangers their safety and property and besides that, there are prowlers in the neighbor hood.
